Passages Center treatment team meets individually with each client to design a specific program to achieve life changes. There are extraordinary differences among those who suffer from addiction and or alcoholism. Every person has a unique family and environmental history, unique living conditions, unique social backgrounds and unique personal experiences. Of additional importance, treatment experts understand that medical ailments that contribute to addiction and or alcoholism are diverse and require specific assessment in order to address the uniqueness of the each disorder. At Passages Malibu, members of our treatment team meet individually with each client and then the entire treatment team meets to design a specific program for each client. Each client receives more than 15 individual sessions per week for a combined over 60 individual sessions per month. Passages Malibu offers more individual sessions than any other treatment facility in the country. Though it is a widely held belief in the addiction industry that those facing addictions fall at the mercy of the human genetic code, at the Passages Addiction Cure Center, the specialists do not believe that genetics is a major cause of opium addiction. Throughout the years, countless individuals dealt with opium dependency, despite the fact that no relatives encountered chemical dependency issues. Conversely, plenty of children and grandchildren of chemically dependent individuals never develop addictions by easily choosing to abstain from alcohol or drugs or drinking in moderation. As such, the specialists at Passages Malibu do not view addiction as an incurable condition or "disease," but rather a symptom that a physical or emotional issue needs resolution. The addiction experts take the stance that recovery does not have to entail repetitive relapse, but that patients can beat addictions when they treat the underlying addictions successfully.

Self Help

Self help groups can complement and extend the effects of professional treatment. The most prominent self help groups are Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous and Cocaine Anonymous. These help groups operate on the 12-step model. Most drug addiction treatment programs encourage patients to participate in self help group therapy during and after formal treatment. These groups can be particularly helpful during recovery, offering an added layer of community and social support to help people achieve and maintain abstinence and other healthy lifestyle behaviors over the course of a lifetime.
